Solar Power Plant (SPP) Installation Process: Project – EPC – Commissioning
Solar power plant (SPP) installation is a multi-layered process that goes beyond simply placing panels, encompassing everything from financial feasibility and engineering design to on-site implementation and commissioning. A well-planned SPP project increases production efficiency, reduces operating costs, and provides predictable energy output for many years. Therefore, instead of the word "installation," it is more accurate to say the end-to-end construction and preparation for operation of an energy facility. At 2G Construction & Energy, our goal in SPP projects is to proceed with a project-to-commissioning (EPC) framework that protects the return on investment and avoids unexpected risks on site.
Proje → EPC → Devreye Alma zinciri hatasız kurulursa üretim güvence altına alınır. Rooftop (Çatı) • Utility/On-grid (Arazi) • Şebeke entegrasyonu • Kabul dosyası
Odak: Proje–EPC–Devreye Alma Risk: Üretim kaybı • Kabul gecikmesi • Maliyet artışı
Although solar power projects are categorized into two main groups: rooftop and on-grid (utility/on-grid), the process logic is largely similar. First, the correct site selection and technical feasibility analyses are carried out, then the project is designed, implemented on-site within the scope of EPC (Engineering–Procurement–Construction), and finally, tests are completed and the facility is commissioned. An error in any link of this chain can result in production losses, potential malfunctions, acceptance delays, and unexpected costs.

Project Phase: The Foundation of Correct Design
The success of a solar power plant is largely determined during the project phase. During the site selection and exploration phase, the slope of the land, soil conditions, shading effects, proximity to existing electrical infrastructure, access-logistics conditions, and transformer/grid connection possibilities are evaluated. Shading analysis and layout planning, in particular, are critical aspects that directly affect the plant's annual production. Similarly, static and soil conditions determine the type of construction and site cost.

Generally, the following decisions become clear during the project phase:

  • Kurulu güç ve ekipman mimarisi Panel dizilimi ve inverter seçimi (string/central gibi).
  • DC–AC kablolama ve koruma Koruma elemanları ve topraklama yaklaşımının belirlenmesi.
  • OG bağlantı ve şebeke entegrasyonu Trafo merkezi, OG bağlantı yapısı ve entegrasyon senaryosu.
Proper engineering at this stage reduces unnecessary revisions on-site, controls costs through cabling and equipment optimization, and most importantly, maintains production performance.
EPC Process: Managing Engineering-Procurement-Construction in a Single Discipline
EPC is the most critical management model in solar power projects because design, equipment selection, and field application are all focused on the same goal: seamless commissioning and sustainable production. On the procurement side, main items such as panels, inverters, supporting structures, cables, connectors, DC/AC switchboards, protection equipment, and monitoring systems are evaluated together with quality-certification-warranty criteria. Here, it's not just about "buying products," but also about the compatibility of the products with each other and the assembly standard on site.

When on-site construction begins, work usually progresses with infrastructure and mechanical installation. In ground-mounted solar power plants, leveling, drainage, internal roads, and platform work are very important for production safety; if rainwater management is poorly designed, cable routes, switchboards, and field equipment will be at serious risk in the future. After the construction assembly and panel placement are completed, DC side cabling, string connections, and site layout are done. Then, inverter placement, AC side cabling, and transformer substation connections come into play.

Critical points determining success on-site during the EPC phase:
  • Kablolama ve bağlantı standardı Kablo güzergâh düzeni, konnektör kalitesi ve bağlantı işçiliği.
  • Topraklama & yıldırımdan korunma Yaklaşımın baştan doğru kurulması ve sahada süreklilik.
  • Yerleşim & gölgelenme disiplinı Panel diziliminde gölgelenmeyi artıracak saha hatalarının önlenmesi.
Commissioning: The Final Step to Secure Production
In a solar power plant, commissioning is not the end of the installation; it's the stage where production is secured. Before commissioning, checks such as DC side insulation tests, string checks, polarity verification, and connection accuracy are performed. On the AC side, inverter function tests, protection relays, and grid synchronization checks are completed. The installation of a monitoring (SCADA/Monitoring) system ensures accurate reading of production data; alarm and warning thresholds are defined according to the operating logic.

This process typically results in the following outputs:
  • Test ve ölçüm raporları DC izolasyon, topraklama ölçümleri ve fonksiyon testleri.
  • Enerjilendirme ve kontrollü üretim Enerjilendirme prosedürü ve üretim başlangıcının kayıt altına alınması.
  • Kabul dosyası & işletme dokümantasyonu As-built, ekipman dokümanları ve garanti kayıtları.
The first few days of production after commissioning are crucial for performance verification. Production values are compared to the expected simulation; if anomalies are found, root cause analysis is performed and early intervention is implemented. This approach helps to catch small problems at the outset that could later turn into chronic production losses. At 2G Construction & Energy, we don't just settle for saying "it worked" during the commissioning phase; we prioritize verifying the system with measurements and reports.
CONCLUSION
The solar power plant installation process is an engineering chain where the project, EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) and commissioning steps are managed in a coordinated manner. Production losses and operational problems are inevitable in plants built without proper surveying and design. Similarly, installations carried out without maintaining quality standards on-site can prolong acceptance processes and increase long-term downtime costs. Therefore, the goal in solar power plant investments is not just to build, but to build, measure, and commission in a planned manner, and to operate efficiently. 2G Construction & Energy is here to support you with its expertise in managing the project, EPC, and commissioning processes end-to-end in your solar power plant projects.
